Phil Clark

Phil spent several years in the Royal Navy, dealing with highly-sensitive material and the measures in place, both physical and cryptologic, to protect that data.  Since leaving the military, Phil gained ISEB* certification in Data Protection and is, therefore, professionally-qualified to assess and audit compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA).

Many clients have data, particularly R & D information, that is not covered by the Data Protection Act.  However, it is still imperative to the business that it remains secure.  Phil's practical approach and range of skills allow him to advise on safeguarding all types of data and not just those covered by the Act.

In addition to working with a number of Local Authorities and other Public Sector organisations such as the Police and numerous government security agencies, Phil has range of experience in the private sector.  This experience includes the telecoms industry with key players such as Cable & Wireless, ntl and Hutchison.  Phil has also worked with a huge variety of smaller entities, often part of a parent group,  ranging from the hotel and leisure industry to aerospace engineering and auctioneers.   Phil prides himself on ensuring that consultancy causes a minimum of disruption to the client organisation, particularly at senior levels.

Phil is able to efficiently assess current levels of security and DPA compliance and to identify any gaps.  Phil's practical and discrete approach enables the client to have a clear understanding of their exposure levels and to take any remedial action that is necessary.

*The ISEB (Information Security Examination Board) Certificate in Data Protection and Freedom of Information is the recognised standard for true Data Protection professionals.  Coupled with this is level of technical expertise in such a complex legal framework is the need for experience in the practical application of appropriate measures that comply with the law without undue, adverse impact on operational effectiveness.  This practical ability can only come with years of experience in a number of industry fields.
