Enterprises are duty bound to comply with information protection legislation. This encompasses the protection of personal data, such as addresses, financial or account data. Although laws prescribe that enterprises of a certain size must implement and follow procedures to protect personal data, the liability rests with the management in the event of damage or loss. Depending on the gravity of the particular case, the harm may range from embarrassing to catastrophic. In a worst-case scenario it may even pose a risk to survival.
